Southport Half Marathon & 10k, 2nd July 2017

Summer 2017 will see Southport Half Marathon return for its 5th and biggest edition to date - we continue with the addition of the 2 new distances of 10k and Mile and have increased capacity and increased the entertainment and music on the traffic free route which includes Lord Street in Southport town centre and a start/finish area with live music and entertainment in Victoria Park which will be exclusive to competitors and spectators - for venue details CLICK HERE

 

The route is the only running event in the history of Southport to be permitted to close Lord Street to traffic and allow 1000s of participants to run through the heart of this famous seaside resort!

Race HQ:

Race HQ is located in Victoria Park nearest postcode for Sat Nav use PR8 2BZ. All participants and spectators are encouraged to park on Esplanade Car Park at the Eco Centre from 07:00 on Race Day as it will offer the most convenient access to the venue and will cause least disruption to the residents and businesses of Southport. Please note this a Pay on entry Car Park and a reduced rate will apply for arrivals before 09:00.

 

The Course: 

The 10k and Half Marathon routes will start in Victoria Park as in previous years but will now head into town and along the famous Lord Street (a Victorian canopied boulevard edged in gardens), passing the Monument, War Memorial and Town Hall before the 10k turns left towards the Lake and the Half Marathon runners head North for a quick trip around Hesketh Park, passed the Golf Club and return to the coast before heading south towards the Marine Lake, then along Promenade and under the Pier, through Kings Gardens, around the Marine Lake and back to the coast via the lakeside pathway before heading south again and returning for a Finish in Victoria Park.

Both routes are very flat, fast and traffic free with lots of PB potential!

The 1 mile fun run will take place within Victoria Park.

Car Parking will be available at Esplanade Car Park at the Eco Centre from 0700hrs with the event due to commence at 0900hrs. 

Competitors will be asked to group themselves into the appropriate sections in the Start area according to expected time and electronic chip timing will be used to ensure all participants receive an accurate finish time.

The event will be run in accordance with UK Athletics Standards and Competition Rules.

 

Race Numbers & Chip Timing:

Numbers with timing chips attached to the back of the number are posted out to entrants approx 10-12 days prior to the race. Please note any late entrants entering after Monday 19th June 1600hrs will need to collect their numbers from Race HQ at Victoria Park on the morning of the race from 0730hrs.

 

  • If you are a late entrant (after midnight Monday 19th June 1600hrs) you will not receive your number in the post – you must collect your number on Race Day at Registration.
  • Race Day Registration will be open from 0730-0830hrs in Victoria Park – please arrive early to collect numbers if you are a late entrant failure to do so may mean you miss the race start.

 
Event Briefing:
 
All athletes will be required to attend a Race Briefing at 08:45, this will be held at the Start/Finish Area in Victoria Park. The briefing is mandatory and is to ensure your health and safety and that of the marshals, officials and spectators.
 
Bag Drop:
 
There will be a bag drop area adjacent to registration near the race start where you may leave a small bag for the duration of the event. Bags are left at owners own risk.

 

Event T-shirts and Medals:

The custom designed Southport Half Marathon & 10k event T-shirt and Medal is included in your event fee along with a goody bag at the finish line
